Free Starbucks Coffee

Starbucks has become the coffee shop on every corner for the most part.  Each one has a very good idea of who their clients are and when they experience “rush hours”.  In the off chance you order a regular cup-o-joe like I do, you may be surprised to know that if their drip coffee is not ready to serve, you get it for free.  This has happened to me on more than one occasion.  While the wait for the free coffee is typically a couple of minutes, it’s definitely worth it.  Hey, it’s free.  While this doesn’t happen often as they are on top of their brewing, you are most likely to get lucky in the morning when the masses pour in looking for their morning fix.

Been Busy

Brothers, originally uploaded by tigerpaw511.

A number of you have asked where all the new posts have gone…

Well, we have been a little busy the past month or so. We have sold a house, bought a house, moved out, moved in, started raising a newborn, raising a 2 year old, parent teacher conference for the 7 year old, back at work after maternity leave, crazy busy at work….just to name several of the things that have been going on.

Now that things have “settled down”, I’ll do my best to get back to my regular posting schedule. Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Boy’s Name

So, as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to name my kids Parker and Peyton. When we got pregnant with Parker, there was no question in our minds that he would be named Parker. David liked it, I liked it…end of story.

This next one is a different story. David is not that fond of Peyton, so we’re on the hunt to find a name. I never knew how difficult, yet fun!! figuring out a name can be.

Supercross

Supercross, originally uploaded by tigerpaw511.

A friend of mine who manages a Honda shop hooked me up with 2 free premium tickets to the Supercross at Angel Stadium. This was the first time I had ever been to this sort of event. The premium tickets got us access to the pits as well as the chance to walk the track before the race. My first impression was that this was nothing more than a beer and boob fest (which it was) and nothing more.

There was a pre-main event race consisting of smaller motorcycles that ridden by some industry people, not the pros. When the main event started, both Dylan and I were blown away. It was part rock concert, part X-Games, part laser show, and a motorcycle race thrown in for good measure. I think we saw more fireworks and shooting flames than the last few July 4th celebrations put together.

When the pros started their races I was truly amazed at how high these guys get on their bikes. It seemed like some of them were flying. That elevation can come at a cost though and Dylan and I witnessed a rider fall right in front of us. His motorcycle went soaring over the barrier and for a moment I thought we might become the new owners of a supercross bike.

At the end of it all, I am glad to have experienced this event. Would I go again?..? Sure. It was a lot of fun. Click on the picture of Dylan next to the track for more photos from the event.

Wanna Make 10K The Fun Way?!?

Since the end of November ’07, Volcom has challenged all surfers to document the first kick-flip while surfing. A kick flip is essentially when you are riding the board and then jump into the air while the surboard spins one 360 degree rotation underneath you. You must then land on the board and continue riding the wave. The guy below gets pretty close to pulling it off. Even though we are huge Quiksilver fans, this is still pretty cool.

Bike Ride

Bike Ride, originally uploaded by tigerpaw511.

This year Santa brought the kids bikes. Well, he brought Dylan a bike and Parker a bike seat. We were not sure how Parker would take to it but he loves it. The Topeak Baby Seat is a great way for the little ones to get out and enjoy a nice ride. It has built in shocks, slightly reclines, and is padded for comfort. It locks to a rear platform that its attached at numerous places to the frame. The best feature is that it detaches quickly if Dad wants to go cruising without the little guy.

If you have little ones (up to 40 pounds) and enjoy riding, I would highly recommend checking this seat out.
